Full Job Description

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University, Section of Dance, Music, Performance and Theatre, invites applications for one (1) full-time Academic Professional Track, Instructional Assistant/Associate Professor in Vocal Performance (depending on qualifications). This is a nine-month academic, non-tenure accruing appointment beginning Fall 2025. All voice types are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone, or bass.

We seek an individual with expertise in at least one of the following areas:

Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre or Opera Stage Direction

Opera
Collaborative Projects
Besides teaching individual voice lessons and voice-related courses at the undergraduate level, the position also entails the development of courses and performance-based projects in at least one of the areas listed above. The PVFAs unique music degree started in the Fall of 2024, for that reason, and unlike similar positions in most Schools of Music, the successful candidate will have ample opportunity to contribute at an early stage to the music program and to the music scene at Texas A&M University more broadly. Candidates will also be expected to contribute to academic service.

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a College within the Texas A&M University System and has a diverse and dynamic mission with nearly 100 faculty and more than 30 staff members and a projected exponential growth in the next 5 years. The College was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Texas A&M University leadership has charged the College with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build upon our strength in merging art and science, as well as the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater. Applicants should consult the Colleges website to review our academic and research programs (https://pvfa.tamu.edu/).

Qualifications
A Master level degree in one of the fields indicated above or a related field, or a terminal degree (preferred) such as DMA, PhD, or MFA is required. Successful candidates at the Instructional Assistant level must have a minimum of three years of significant teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or in a related field and a background in collaborative performing arts projects. Consideration for the rank of Associate will be given to individuals with significant (minimum of six years) teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or in a related field, who have attained the rank of Associate at a prior institution or have equivalent professional experience.
