Job Summary

Michigan Medicine Radiology 3D Imaging Lab

Michigan Medicine's Radiology 3D Imaging Lab provides clinically relevant visualization and analysis of medical imaging data within the University of Michigan Health System and to non-UMHS health care providers requesting our services. We assist and provide support for advanced applications for CT and MRI examinations in both adult and pediatric patients.  We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-focused individuals who will share in the goal of crafting the ideal experience for our patients, families, and employees.

What would your days look like?

If you are a registered technologist with ARRT and have advanced certification in MRI or CT with clinical experience in one or both looking to advance your career and sharpen your imaging skills, there is no better place than our 3D Advanced Imaging Team. We'll work with you to master the delivery of high-quality, advanced post-processed medical images generated from CT and MRI datasets. Our 3D Lab staff is a small, dedicated group that have direct physician interaction. We review and discuss post-processing work with radiologists and/or referring physicians for patient management, essential for pre-operative planning. Our 3D Specialists are well versed in the fundamentals of scanning technology, cross-sectional anatomy, and gross pathology. Responsibilities*

What skills would you master?

  • You will operate computer software for production of 3D images and reconstructions from CT and MRI datasets for optimal visualization of anatomic structures, functional imaging, and delineation of physiologic and pathologic processes.
  • You'll work in conjunction with radiologists and referring physicians to ensure that the post-processed images are of maximal clinical value. Produce quantitative measurements when indicated.
  • Working directly with Radiology faculty, you'll help develop, implement and/or assist in maintaining advanced CT protocols and techniques, and in the education of CT technologists in scan protocols and 3D renderings.
  • You will assist as needed with MR acquisition protocols and QA as related to 3D examinations.
  • You'll assist in the instruction of physicians and technologists who are learning 3D imaging applications.
  • You will partner with faculty and house officers with academic work, including research, publications and lectures on new techniques or procedures involving advanced post-processing and protocols.
  • You will collaborate with 3D software vendors to develop and test new products for clinical market by providing 3D and quantification when needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography and CT or MRI
  • Minimum 3 years of CT and/or MRI experience (both strongly preferred), including advanced 3D post-processing.
  • Deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathologic processes with emphasis on cardiac, neurologic and or orthopedic physiology
  • Excellent spatial visualization
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action to make independent decisions on matters of significance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent social skills, displaying positivity, respect, compassion, and integrity.
  • Can work independently without direct supervision.
  • Reliability and collaboration are essential.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Mental/visual ability to operate complex computer equipment, with precision and attention to detail and ability to visually concentrate and focus for varying periods of time on individual patient images.
  • Physical ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for an entire workday (up to 80% of the time with frequent breaks)
  • Ability to deal with stressful demands due to patient flow, emergencies and stat requests, and multiple interruption.
  • Can work independently without direct supervision.
  • Reliability and collaboration are essential.

Desired Qualifications*

  • 1-3 years of 3D experience with adequate knowledge of 3D rendering and segmentation techniques and quantitative analysis
  • Knowledge of GE and Vital Images workstation experience preferred, along with Medis QMass, Philips and Invivo Dynasuite workstations
  • Computer Skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & PACS
  • Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience

Work Schedule

M-F 4pm-12am, with rotating weekends

Work Locations

Our 3D team rotates between the Main University Hospital, Children's and Women's Hospital, and telecommuting.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
