Description

Within MIS, the US Public Finance Group (PFG) is responsible for the fundamental credit analysis that underpins the monitoring of existing debt ratings and the assignment of new debt ratings for both public and private sector issuers in the municipal finance arena.

Responsibilities

The Analyst will manage a portfolio of diverse higher education and nonprofit organizations. This is an opportunity for someone with strong credit and analytic competence and good communication abilities who enjoys engaging with a broad variety of financial market participants, both internally and externally.

What You Will Do In This Role

This is a challenging role where you will be responsible for ensuring ratings accuracy and providing insightful credit analysis. This opportunity involves developing/maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the relevant sectors and issuers. You will articulate robust credit views to the company and the broader marketplace. Your credit research and targeted market outreach will enhance Moody's relevance and expand our brand and reputation as a trusted source of credit insight.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Manage a portfolio of higher education and nonprofit organizations including public and private colleges and universities, museums, research institutes and others. Ensure accurate ratings through rigorous and timely credit analysis. Evaluate evolving factors such as competitive position, financial performance, wealth and liquidity, and capital structures. Analysis will be done in the context of dynamic business conditions and ESG considerations. Present these findings to rating committees on a regular basis.
  • Build rapport with senior management teams and engage regularly with investors and intermediaries, communicating critical credit views and demonstrating sound industry and company knowledge.
  • Publish topical, insightful, forward-looking and transparent research reports for rated organizations as well as sector-wide and cross-sector credit themes.
  • Collaborate across the organization, including on a variety of ad hoc strategic projects.
  • Manage and foster relationships with the highest level of professional integrity, transparency and fairness.

Qualifications

  • Typically 3+ years of credit/risk assessment experience, particularly in the public finance sectors, or other related equivalent educational or financial experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field required, Master's degree desirable or additional related work experience.
  • Intellectual curiosity, honesty, thoroughness, sound judgment and ability to work independently and in a team, ensuring a free exchange of perspectives in an inclusive, open-minded and diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - able to communicate clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships and represent the Moody's brand credibly and effectively.
  • Diligence, efficiency, responsibility, sense of ownership and ability to meet tight deadlines with high quality outcomes.
  • Adaptable and able to work with different technical tools and teams. Keen interest in and understanding of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. Willingness to continuously learn, adapt, and implement new technological advancements to drive efficiency and innovation.
  • Commitment to continually learn and grow, authentic and passionate about caring for and inspiring others, engaging with multi-cultural awareness.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is [[$134,400 - [[$194,850, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody's also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
