WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Business Development Specialist I is a member of the Business Development team within The Nature Conservancy (TNC)'s Policy and Public Funding division. The Business Development team provides centralized business development support to TNC teams on public funding opportunities, with a focus on pre-award proposal development support. The Business Development team's goals include: (1) to increase public funding through dedicated business development capacity and expertise, and (2) to facilitate and prioritize a learning culture around public funding proposal development, through which individuals can connect across TNC.
The Business Development Specialist I coordinates, writes, and reviews public funding proposals for major public funders including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), UK Government's Darwin Initiative, German Federal Government, European Union (EU), Green Climate Fund (GCF), Global Environment Facility (GEF), and other bilateral and multilateral public funding agencies.

In collaboration with various TNC teams (e.g., global/regional conservation teams, partnership managers, finance, legal) and external stakeholders (e.g., partner organizations, consultants), the Business Development Specialist I will provide proposal coordination support to keep multiple proposals moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines, and manage other deliverables related to public funding proposals. This includes developing and maintaining proposal management plans and calendars, organizing proposal resources, coordinating team inputs and reviews, identifying and supporting resolution of proposal development issues, contributing to the production of proposal deliverables, and facilitating proposal follow-up and lessons learned. The Business Development Specialist I will also support the maintenance of internal systems to identify and prioritize support requests and TNC's information database for public funding proposals.

In addition, the Business Development Specialist I will serve as a proposal writer (lead and supporting) with the responsibility of outlining, writing, and/or editing sections of public funding proposals that persuasively communicate TNC's mission and programs to major public funders to secure public funds in support of our conservation mission.
