Job Summary

The University of Michigan, Department of Surgery, Section of Vascular Surgery is seeking candidates for a Clinical Track Assistant Professor to join our team of experts and innovators in pursuing advances in vascular surgical care that set the standard for our discipline. We seek a clinically focused vascular surgeon with a significant research focus in health services and a desire to work at the VA Ann Arbor Health System. Expertise in advanced endovascular and open peripheral interventions is desired.

Who We Are

The University of Michigan Section of Vascular Surgery is uniquely equipped to treat difficult and complex cases, and to translate new treatments and approaches from the lab to bedside through our partnerships with cardiovascular specialists across disciplines and our technologically advanced facilities. The Section consists of 8 clinical faculty with an emphasis on collegiality and collaboration, 2 research faculty and a staff of 40. There are 8 active professorships in addition to other large endowments and 4 endowed annual lectures. 

The annual clinical volume consists of approximately 1,500 cases, 10,000 clinic visits and we staff sites at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center (CVC OR and clinic), the East Ann Arbor Surgery Center (OR), the Brighton Center for Specialty Care (OR and clinic), and the Northville Health Center (procedural and clinic), which are all Michigan Medicine sites. The CVC OR is well-equipped with a state-of-the-art vascular hybrid room, a second dedicated aortic hybrid room, multiple open and endovascular suites. The Vascular Surgery Section is a strong partner with the diagnostic vascular laboratory, which has an annual volume of greater than 35,000 studies and 9 sites, including research and venous surgery. The Section's research is centered in 5 areas including the Jobst Laboratories, the Biomechanics Laboratory, a concentration in immunology of vascular disease and health services research. The Section has a robust educational platform including ACGME-accredited training programs in both the vascular surgery fellowship (which has been running for >30 years) and an integrated vascular surgery residency (which began as one of the first three residency programs in the country). Clinical support includes 5 dedicated clinic NPs, 3 clinic nurses, surgery schedulers, and 3 inpatient PAs.

Responsibilities*

Clinic and OR responsibilities will reside mainly at the VA Ann Arbor Health System but include coverage at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center which includes seeing a broad array of vascular surgery patients and interest in PAD, advanced endovascular techniques and a willingness to do TOS. Establishment of a scholarly pursuits in health services research arena is highly encouraged, with attainment of extramural funding. Duties also include teaching medical students, house officers and fellows in clinical and didactic settings.

Required Qualifications*

Medical Doctorate or DO degree

Completion of an Integrated Vascular Surgery residency or General Surgery residency and Vascular Surgery Fellowship

Board Certified/Board Eligible; ability to obtain Michigan medical license and Federal DEA registration

Demonstrated ability in education and scholarship

Evidence of competence in clinical and didactic teaching

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
