Job Summary

This position will provide nursing support to patients in neurology receiving infusions, or any treatments requiring specialized supportive care with geriatric neurological disorders, multiple sclerosis, and more. Care to include patients at East Ann Arbor, Chelsea Health Center, Taubman Center and any ambulatory location within Michigan Medicine where neurology services are provided. This position may include neurology clinic nursing responsibilities including triage and patient education.

Responsibilities*

  • Coordination and planning of neurology patients requiring infusion and radiology services for their care i.e. MRI and PET scans before and after infusions.  
  • Triage, in-basket management, authorizations, patient education and clinic support.
  • Candidate must perform duties independently, be highly motivated and flexible to address the needs of patients and their families.  
  • Candidate will need to be familiar with internal and external resources for clinical assessment, decision making, and care management.
  • Provide nursing care to all adult, and potentially pediatric, patients and families in the neurology service.
  • Provide nursing care in collaboration with Physicians, other disciplines, and department colleagues for patients in clinic and via telephone to support efficient and effective management of patients.
  • Participate in the coordination of care, including but not limited to testing, medication management, collaborative planning of care, support of self-management by patients/families, management of emergency situations, etc.
  • Provide patient and family education e.g., self-injection, medication management, pre-procedure and post-procedure care, etc.
  • Function as a Patient Liaison for the neurology services to help coordinate visits for patients, help determine the service to best meet the patient's needs, and triage for same day/next day urgent visits.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation of nursing care using an electronic medical record (MiChart).
  • Participate in quality improvement and LEAN thinking to improve workflow and processes.
  • May provide support of clinic functions in collaboration with other clinic support staff.
  • Provide nursing care for this patient population wherever neurology services are provided .

Salary range for RSAM Registered Nurses $41.44 - $64.45 / hour

  • Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
  • Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour
  • Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour
  • Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour
  • Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
  • Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:

This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the  Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:

CCC- COMPETENT.

Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

RSAM levels range from CCC-COMPETENT to CCC-EXPERT TO CCC-MASTERY.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing OR Associates degree/diploma in Nursing along with a Masters degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 3 years nursing experience 
  • NOTE: Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Two (2) or more years of nursing experience (in the last 5 years) in areas relevant to the care of neurology patients, with particular focus on Alzheimer?s disease, dementia and multiple sclerosis.
  • At least 1 year of ambulatory care experience
  • Clinical Certification in a nursing specialty
  • Demonstrated ability to plan care for both medical and surgical patients with a multidisciplinary team

    Work Schedule

    Hours per week: 40 
    Shift/ Days/ Hours: Day shift; Monday through Friday; specific hours to be determined upon hire 
    Location:  Michigan Medicine locations where neurology services are provided 

    Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

    Union Affiliation

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

    Background Screening
