Job Summary

This posting is for a full-time research assistant who will work on a neuroimaging and eye-tracking research study in young adults focused on identifying neural and behavioral patterns associated with risk for substance misuse. The research assistant will work with the principal investigators and other members of the research team at the University of Michigan.

Responsibilities*

    Knowledge of all 8 competency domains is expected: 

  1. Scientific Concepts and Research Design
  2. Ethical Participant Safety Considerations
  3. Investigational Products Development and Regulation
  4. Clinical Study Operations (GCP's)
  5. Study and Site Management 
  6. Data Management and Informatics
  7. Leadership and Professionalism
  8. Communication and Teamwork 

     Position Specific Responsibilities include: 

  1. Recruiting, screening, scheduling, and paying participants
  2. Conducting in-person study visits at the functional MRI Lab and Rachel Upjohn Building, which involves consenting participants, setting up and monitoring fMRI tasks, and administering behavioral and neuropsychological assessments
  3. Conducting follow-up assessments via phone and/or internet
  4. Purchasing supplies and materials
  5. Assisting in the preparation of progress reports and other regulatory materials
  6. Cleaning and scoring data for future analyses
  7. Performing literature searches
  8. Working collaboratively with other team members to fulfill the goals of the project. The potential exists to assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and presentations at conferences.

Required Qualifications*

     Must have exceptional: 

  • Organizational skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Excel) and a willingness to learn and develop additional computer skills.

    Technician:

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • ONE of the following:
    • Minimum 1 years of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary. Please review SoCRA's Definition of a Clinical Research Professional qualifying experience prior to applying.
    • An advanced degree in a health-related areas such as: Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD.
    • Minimum 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related patient care, related community health and wellness, related clinical information, and research.

    Assistant:

  • High school diploma or GED is necessary.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, or related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. 
  • An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures. 
  • Previous experience:
    • Working with human participants. 
    • Administering questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and neuropsychological tests. 
    • fMRI and eye-tracking.

Work Schedule

Mostly days; hours in evenings and weekends as necessary

Work Locations

In-person (on-site) at Rachel Upjohn Building, Functional MRI Laboratory.

Background Screening
