This application is for a 6-month student role from January - June 2025. Resume review begins in October 2024. 

Stem Cell Biology and Genomic Editing (SCBGE) supports the Biogen portfolio by establishing human in vitro disease models from induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cells. SCBGE differentiates patient iPSCs into disease-relevant cell types to study disease phenotypes. 

Position Description 

SCBGE seeks a co-op to help support the development of new iPSC differentiation protocols. This position will be lab-based. The primary responsibilities will include producing iPSC-derived oligodendrocytes, characterizing the cells, and optimizing key steps in the differentiation protocol. The ideal candidate will come with a desire to learn from hands-on experience, and a willingness to work cooperatively with others.  

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture. Experience with iPSC culture is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with molecular biology skills including mammalian cell DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/RT-PCR/qPCR. 
  • Familiarity with cellular biology techniques including immunocytochemistry, high-content imaging, image analysis, western blot, cell-based assays. 
  • Ability to precisely document procedures and results in compliance with Electronic Lab Notebook guidelines. 
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Completed relevant coursework in Cell and Molecular Biology. 

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date. 
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. 

Education 

Currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Biology, Biotechnology, or other relevant discipline.
