The role:
Join ODOT as a construction inspector/designer in Portland, Oregon! In this role, you can take pride in projects you complete. The construction design portion of the work will be generating drawings, problem solving on the grade issues with CADD and review project in design. This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to last approximately two years. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. The limited duration appointment has the potential to become permanent.

Rotational assignments do not have the potential to become permanent without a separate competitive recruitment process. A day in the life:
Inspect and monitor construction work to assure that the materials furnished and the work performed are in compliance with the plans and specifications.
Measure and record the contractor’s work and prepare source documents as work is performed, to justify payments.
Monitor project safety procedures and methods.
Spot check survey stakes, grades, stations, locations and alignments prior to placement of construction materials.
Ensure that all required tests are performed and documented in a timely manner.
Prepare and maintain project documentation and reports.
Coordinate and prepare construction details to include but not limited to drainage design adjustments, structure component elevations and sign, signal and illumination footing elevations.
Review preliminary plans for accuracy and completeness to the survey specification, alignments, typical sections, earthwork quantities and drainage. Record comments and submit to appropriate person for action.
Work outdoors, in all weather conditions, 50% or more of the time - field work involves working around construction equipment and traffic hazards and walking on various types of terrain, climbing ladders, traversing scaffolding and working in elevated locations.
Work includes lifting and carrying material or equipment that weighs at least 50 pounds.
May be required to report to work outside of regularly scheduled hours, including weekends and holidays, and working with sometimes hostile contractors and the public.

Minimum qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in civil or transportation-related engineering;
OR
Completion of and passing score on the fundamentals of engineering (FE) exam.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
