The role:

Join our team as a construction specialist! In this role, you will be a field inspector and work at construction sites with contractors and agency staff. A day in the life:

• Participate in project development activities prior to contracts being awarded.

• Review pre-award contract documentation for completeness and accuracy.

• Read and interpret contract documentation.

• Inspect and monitor construction work to ensure it complies with plans and specifications.

• Measure and record contractors work and prepare documents to justify payment.

• Act as a point of contact for communication with contractors, the public or other interested parties.

• Monitor traffic control and safety procedures.

• Provide project information to internal staff, and oversee field and office personnel in documentation, payment and record assembly duties.

• Perform contract administration duties including the preparation of documents such as daily progress reports.

• Ensure that contractors and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) subcontractors meet contract requirements.

• May require working long hours and being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays.

• Work is performed outdoors 50% or more of the time and requires occasional overnight travel, working in adverse weather, moving around rough terrain, working near hazardous materials and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Minimum qualifications:

Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

OR

A bachelor's degree in civil or transportation-related engineering.

Special qualifications:

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

• Experience, education or training in highway construction.

• Experience reading and interpreting highway construction contract plans and specifications.

• Experience implementing or inspecting temporary traffic control in highway construction work zones.

• Experience implementing or inspecting temporary or permanent erosion control best management practices in highway construction work zones.
