Job Summary

The Dental Research Lab at the University of Michigan seeks applicants to join a research lab with Dr. Jan Hu, whose research concentrates on tooth development, enamel/dentin mineralization, and disorders involving teeth. This research group applies molecular genetics, ultrastructural analyses, high throughput sequencing and validation, and in vitro gene delivery and expression to advance current understanding of tooth development and biomineralization. This group works with human subjects with inherited dental disorders to determine causalities, develop gene-targeted mouse models to study pathological mechanisms of tooth formation, and test strategies to mitigate gene expression in loss-of-function mutation models. The main responsibilities of the Fellow will be to advance research projects with guidance from the PI and collaboration with senior lab staff.

Dr. Hu is devoted to work with the Fellow and support his/her career development. Successful candidates will participate in a program that includes research and career mentoring, manuscript and grant writing, and scientific presentations at national/international meetings. Successful Fellow will be offered a 1-year appointment (renewable up to 5 years) based on their performance, research, and professional accomplishments, and will have the opportunity to attend relevant training workshops across the campus, and to co-advise students if appropriate to the project. The appointment will be 100% research. There will also be opportunities to engage in teaching and lecture development, depending on the Fellow's interests.
