The Director, Social Media is responsible for leading the development and execution of a comprehensive social media strategy that supports Emerson College's brand and marketing objectives. This role oversees content creation, platform management, and audience engagement to ensure consistent and effective messaging. Working collaboratively with internal teams, the Director enhances outreach and drives growth while leveraging data-driven insights to optimize performance. Staying ahead of industry trends, this position integrates best practices and innovative approaches to maintain a competitive and impactful social media presence.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with the organization's brand and marketing objectives.
  • Leads content creation, platform management, and audience engagement to ensure consistency, accuracy, and effectiveness in messaging.
  • Acts as the 24/7 social media communications lead in crisis and emergency situations, working with senior leadership to craft messaging for urgent matters and sensitive institutional issues.
  • Monitors and reports on social media engagement related to crisis communications and institutional announcements.
  • Plans, develops and executes social media campaigns to support institutional priorities and initiatives.
  • Writes, edits, and pitches articles that enhance the organization's digital presence and storytelling efforts.
  • Conceives, arranges and produces video, photo, and multimedia projects featuring faculty and students to address institutional news and initiatives.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to social media professionals across the organization, ensuring alignment with best practices and institutional goals.
  • Helps to govern the monitoring and reporting of institutional mentions on social media and in the news.
  • Engages with followers according to established protocols and identifies posts that should be escalated to senior leadership.
  • Coordinates with colleagues managing social media channels for executive leadership, developing strategies and best practices to enhance communication outreach.
  • Develop meaningful metrics and conduct ongoing measurement and analysis of social media performance to optimize strategy and effectiveness.
  • Collaborates closely with Marketing and Communication (MarCom) colleagues to integrate social media efforts with broader marketing and communications strategies.
  • Ensures the organization's social media presence aligns with peer institutions and industry best practices, positioning the organization as a leader in the digital space.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to perform the job effectively.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field required.
  • 7-10 years of experience managing social media for a large organization required.
  • Proven experience in social media strategy, content development, and analytics required.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, changing digital landscape.

Compensation: $113,800.00 - $142,350.00 annually, commensurate with experience.

Grade of Position: 23-13E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Division: Division of Marketing and Communications
