Chesapeake Parks, Recreation, and Tourism is seeking a customer service oriented and dependable individual to perform essential services for the citizens of Chesapeake.
Position is responsible for operating specialized motor equipment, power tools and hand tools to support the maintenance operations of all athletic fields, municipal grounds sites, and parks, to include routine and skilled tasks such as, but not limited to: grading, digging, turf maintenance, mowing and trimming of turf, landscaping, planting, weeding, fertilizing, pruning trees and shrubs, removing dead vegetation and wood debris, littler control, topdressing, mowing, aeration, edging, mulching, spraying, painting and perform various repairs. Other tasks include, but are not limited to:
Provides exceptional internal and external customer service, responds to service requests and inquires, as directed by supervisor, that meets the expectations of the City's Customer Service Initiative.
Works closely with other City Departments, Schools and various outside sports associations, partnering to ensure a top quality, citywide athletic program that serves Chesapeake's diverse population and guests.
Performs field preparations to include setting goal posts, baseball/softball bases and pitchers mounts, lining turf and infields, topdressing, dragging and raking fields.
Operates dump truck, front-end loader, specialized mowers, backhoe, topdresser, small grader, commercial riding mowers, farm-type tractor with implements to complete tasks.
Inspects equipment, performs minor maintenance and reports malfunctions and damages to supervisor. Performs repairs, cleaning and maintenance of City facilities, fixtures, signs, walkways, roads, turf and parking areas.
Assists with the routine maintenance and repairs of various fencing, tennis courts, nets, lighting systems, score boards, and athletic recreational equipment.
Picks up all litter and trash, empties all trashcans, at all sites at a minimum of once a week. May perform routine custodial duties to include cleaning and stocking restrooms, and other facilities.
Performs safety inspections of turf area, athletic fields, parking lots, parks, recreational facilities, and sidewalks, and completes required repairs as necessary, to ensure the safety of citizens, employees and visitors
