The role:
Do you want to use your skills to make a difference? Join our hardworking maintenance crew and help keep Oregon’s roads and travelers safe! In this position, you will help maintain US26, the winter pass and highway 216. During snowstorms, the focus is to keep traffic moving as safely as we can with the resources we have. The shifts can be long, up to 12 hours during severe storms, but the satisfaction of keeping the highway open is rewarding. If you want to be a part of a dynamic crew, we encourage you to apply.
This is a seasonal position that is expected to last approximately 6 months from date of hire. Seasonal positions are regular status, benefits eligible positions, which occur, terminate and recur periodically or regularly.

A day in the life:
Respond to weather related emergencies.
Complete weather related operations including snow removal, deicing and sanding on roadways, highways and bridges.
Operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor to repair roadway surfaces and shoulders.
Maintain, repair or replace metal guardrails, concrete barriers, fences and milepost markers.
Set out temporary traffic control.
Complete minor service and repair of equipment, tools and motorized equipment.
Perform minor building maintenance including sweeping floors, cleaning toilets, painting and light carpentry.
Maintain wooded areas by pruning, thinning or trimming trees, shrubs and groundcover.
Exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides, fertilizers and hazardous waste materials is expected.
Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.
May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.

Minimum qualifications:
One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
OR
Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
Special qualifications:
CDL-A Required: Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions to be considered eligible for this position. You must also have or be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.
This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 71739 Highway 216, Maupin, OR 97037 for emergency call-outs.
