Infrastructure Engineers are responsible for providing a reliable, flexible, scalable, secure, and efficient IT infrastructure to meet current and future organizational needs. They have deep knowledge and hands-on experience in enterprise-wide platforms, and solve technical problems while working on technology initiatives. Infrastructure Engineers have strong architectural, leadership, and technical skills. They ensure delivery of high-quality artifacts, define standards and configuration for the IT infrastructure, and ensure adherence to these standards. Infrastructure Engineers interact in a highly effective manner with other team members and management, drive innovation, and influence delivery and performance.

The IT Merchandise Azure Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for monitoring, supporting, and maintaining the overall Costco Merchandising Azure non-prod and production ecosystems focusing on the health and operational functionality of the environments. This role is also responsible for ensuring the governance, security, and compliance of the platforms and that they are in alignment with Costco policies, operational standards, regulations, and industry frameworks. This is a highly collaborative team within Merchandising that will direct the investigation, response, and recovery from business production incidents, using automated system solutions to ensure minimal disruption to our members and our business.

ROLE

● Leads/Collaborates the technical evaluation of all hardware and infrastructure and makes recommendations, sources quotes, and the preparation of paperwork.

● Designs and implements solutions to meet business needs while developing and enforcing system and security standards.

● Builds prototypes of potential features.

● Creates conceptual and detailed technical design documents and standards.

● Enhances automation of systems and platforms and identifies opportunities for streamlining and continuous process improvement.

● Contributes, interprets, and communicates enterprise, technical, project, and operational strategies to the team.

● Develops team vision to drive new capabilities against a published roadmap, in conjunction with management.

● Ensures that proposed and existing systems are aligned with organizational standards, goals, and objectives.

● Formulates and directs activities that align short term goals and long-term initiatives while providing accurate and timely estimates (work breakdown schedules).

● Works with teams, management, and stakeholders to conceptualize, design, build, test, and release products.

● Analyzes user and project requirements for solutions.

● Supports Merchandising internal users on production and non-production systems.

● Develops a comprehensive understanding of the application infrastructure within the Merchandising environment and how they impact member experience, performance, stability, and quality, through documentation and mentoring.

● Executes and supervises installation of Merchandising IT equipment and infrastructure systems in non-prod and production.

● Contributes to the development, testing, evaluation, and design of future systems and growth, including defining support models and workflows, and creating and maintaining supporting documentation.

● Analyzes, plans, coordinates, configures, installs, tests, monitors, and maintains the applications OS’s, programs, middleware, and hardware supporting Merchandising’s hybrid environments to ensure that applications and integrations perform as expected.

● Tests and implements new tools to proactively manage growth, performance, and monitoring of our hybrid infrastructure, including patching and asset management, starting in non-prod environments and working towards production.

● Identifies opportunities increasing effectiveness and self-healing through automation and continuous process improvement using Microsoft/Azure best practices.

● Researches, recommends, and develops innovative, automated approaches for day to day work.

● Provides feedback on technical design reviews for new server systems, application infrastructure, network flows, and security requirements.

● Develops, maintains, and publishes technical configuration, installation, and maintenance documentation, including asset inventory, processes, configurations, monitoring, and design elements in team repository.

● Identifies, creates, and reports on Key Performance Indicators, emphasis on capacity planning and performance analysis.

● Participates in cross-functional collaboration to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of hybrid environments to meet business demands.

● Coordinates with our Services Management and Agile pod teams, as well as our vendors, to follow up and remediate production issues to meet defined Costco’s service levels.

● Manages resolution and root cause of incidents and problems through effective collaboration, communication, and follow up with management, IT teams, and vendors using Microsoft native tools, such Application Insights, KQL, Log Analytics, and other Azure Services and resources.

● Provides solution/support peripheral integrations for Merchandising applications: RF devices, scales, mobile tablets, printers, etc.

● Manages system resources in partnership with various teams to ensure maximum system performance and appropriate system capacity for peak periods and growth.

● Audits Merch Application Infrastructure regularly against build standards and cost optimization opportunities.

REQUIRED

● 5+ years’ experience:

○ With configuration/administration of cloud platforms such as Azure and Azure products.

○ Experience with scripting frameworks and languages in cloud environments, such as Python and Powershell.

○ Experience supporting operations systems, such as Windows and Linux.

○ Experience with workflow automation and orchestration.

● General understanding of large enterprise operating systems in hybrid environments.

● Experience with installing and configuring large enterprise applications.

● Strong focus on design, build, deployment, security, system optimization, and customization.

● Able to operate independently with a high threshold for dealing with uncertainty, while simultaneously collaborating with various functional and technical teams.

● Detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze a situation for potential problems.

● Demonstrated ability to perform systems analysis on high availability production environments within an enterprise setting, as well as validations of solutions, including DR/HA tests.

● Experience using data analysis to improve systems performance.

● Experience with Azure Policy and Azure RBAC.

● Ability to collaborate with architecture, database, and application teams regarding hybrid production environments.

● Ability to explain complex solutions to an audience with a wide variety of technical skills and background.

● Ability to guide and mentor others through the design, build, and implementation phases of system deployments.

● Strong experience in security domains, including identity and application security, process, and concepts, security event management or security compliance.

● Experience with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Tools, such as Application Insights, Grafana, Splunk, and Dynatrace.

● Experience with APIs and integrating software, SOA, and integration framework.

● Experience with scripting frameworks and languages, such as Python, Bash, and Powershell.

● Knowledge of Back-end Web Application Platform (JSP, DB2, MQ, WebSphere Commerce, Java, etc.).

● Strong proficiency in configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting all of the following networking services: HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs, VLANs, VIPs, ACLs, Routing, Switching.

● Able to support off hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24 x 7 on-call support.

● Ability to travel to Canada and within the US.

Recommended

● Experience with cloud installations or migrations, preferably Azure.

● Experience with custom coded Java applications, Windows, and Linux server technologies and/or Oracle and SQL Server databases.

● Familiarity with C#, Angular, and React.

● Experience with peripheral installation, configuration, customization, and triage.

● Understanding of middleware technologies and messaging systems.

● Experience implementing a major software application.

● Knowledge of large-scale enterprise architectures.

Pay Ranges:

Level 3. - $130,000 - $160,000

Senior - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
