Job Summary

The Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (MADRC) is seeking a full-time (40 hrs/week) Research Area Specialist Associate or Intermediate to join its research team.  This position is hybrid and will involve remote work as well as in-person work at the Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Center, 2101 Commonwealth Blvd, Ann Arbor, where there is free staff parking. Hours of work are Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm. 

We are seeking a positive, highly motivated, organized, autonomous person with excellent multi-tasking ability and record-keeping skills to work with principal investigator Dr. Annalise Rahman-Filipiak and a dynamic interdisciplinary team from the Outreach, Recruitment, & Engagement Core of the MADRC. Dr. Rahman's research focuses on disclosure of Alzheimer's disease biomarkers, how we effectively communicate with patients and their families about their cognitive, imaging, and plasma biomarker results, and how learning these results impacts health trajectories over time. The research also focuses heavily on addressing racial-ethnic disparities in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, as well as culturally- and community- informed clinical and research practices. The candidate will be expected to lead feedback sessions and to coordinate disclosure-focused research projects.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide research results and diagnosis feedback to research participants enrolled in the longitudinal, NIH-funded study University of Michigan Memory and Aging Project (UM-MAP) and other related projects. Assist participants with understanding their research diagnosis and its implications. 
  • Perform data collection and ensure all study related documentation is completed accurately. Ensure data quality. Update standard operating procedures manuals for research results and diagnosis feedback. Lead quarterly team meetings with personnel and investigators on the UM-MAP Feedback Team.
  • Provide study coordination for the Outcomes Following Feedback on Research Results (OFFeR) feedback outcomes study. Relevant tasks include tracking participant recruitment, liaising with the U-M Institutional Review Board on regulatory matters (e.g., submitting IRB amendments), administering research surveys, and overseeing the distribution of research participant incentives.
  • Assist the principal investigator or delegate with compliance and reporting to funding and regulatory agencies (e.g., NIH, IRB).
  • Participate in and support community outreach activities.
  • Work collaboratively with MADC and U-M Neuropsychology affiliated teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to multitask and work well under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a semi-independent manner with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Interest working with older adults with and without dementia and with dementia specific programs, care, support, and outreach.
  • Dedication to community-engaged research practices and cultural humility
  • A working knowledge of medical terminology and assessment of laboratory values.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Good Clinical Practice and HIPAA.
  • Computer proficiency (i.e., Microsoft Suite, Dropbox.)
  • Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, attention to detail, ability to work independently but also within a team, personable, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative and effective manner.
  • Ability to work in a semi-independent manner with minimal supervision.

Intermediate Level:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or equivalent combination of education and experience similar field.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in a related field. 
  • Experience working with clinical populations.

Associate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or similar field.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a related field.

Desired Qualifications*

  • An active clinical license in the State of Michigan (e.g., LMSW, LLMSW, LP, LLP, TLLP) 
  • Experience working with older adults with and without dementia. 
  • Experience using REDCap.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures.
