Part-Time Instructor, Nursing (Watauga)

Salary: $34.15 - $38.30 Hourly

Description

Part-Time Instructor, Nursing assists in the coordination of the academic subject matter of the Nursing program; instructs classes, clinicals, and labs in assigned division; coordinates assigned activities; provides highly responsible nursing student supervision and support to the Director, Nursing Program.

Examples of Duties


Essential Functions:

Plan and participate in the instruction of classes, lab or clinical for the Nursing program; prepare supplemental materials and tests; maintain accurate records of student atten­dance and performance.
Assist in the preparation of objectives, assignments, and course syllabus; evaluate textbooks, and prepare instructional materials and aids.
Assist full-time faculty with objectives and course outlines for each class; begin and end each scheduled meeting on time; turn in reports, final grades and other forms on time; revise course content and objectives as needed; and administer student evaluations.
Participate in the development, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of the program curriculum activities and operations of the nursing program.
Participate in the development of the Nursing work plan; participate in work activities; coordinate work products, methods and proce­dures.
Assist in the development of the instructional schedule, and syllabi. Ensure instruction meets the needs of the students and community.
Participate in the academic program's efforts to recruit and retain students.
Participate in the selection, evaluation, use and maintenance of equipment and facilities assigned to the program.
Participate in  scheduled nursing faculty meetings, seminars and clinical agencies' competency workshops; stay abreast of new developments in the assigned area of study by attending professional meetings, continuing education workshops, and clinical site orientation for updates and changes.
Participate in Nursing program content to ensure adherence to State and National standards.
Assist in developing, preparing, documenting, and presenting assigned courses of instruction.
Make student clinical assignments to include orientation of nursing students to the clinical area, demonstration of proper procedures and clinical assignments, supervision of clinical performance, evaluation and counseling of each student as to progress and performance.
Assist with lab and clinical orientation of nursing students.


Marginal Functions:

Serve on a variety of committees and study groups; research and develop recommenda­tions related to academic and instructional programs; maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with occupational or academic field.
Assist with inventory of program equipment; assume responsibilities for labs, shops and other facilities designed primarily for the Nursing program.
Participate in community activities to promote the nursing program and nursing profession.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Principles and techniques of classroom, lab and clinical instruction.
The mission, goals and objectives of CCC&TI.
Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures.
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
Safe work practices and procedures.
Operational characteristics of equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned.
Advanced principles and practices of instructional development and instruc­tional strategies.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Modern methods and computer equipment.
Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.
Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regula­tions.


Ability to:

Interpret and apply college and assigned division goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and  regulations.
Contribute to the development of academic mission, goals and objectives which complement those of the college.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Provide classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to students.
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Department.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Operate a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.


Environmental Conditions:

The instructor should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office and classroom workspace, and working closely with others.


The instructor must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment. 


 Physical Conditions:

Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens.


The instructor is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.


Additionally, the instructor must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.


Scheduling Conditions:

This is a part-time position, with availability of contract hours and scheduling (day/evening/online) dependent enrollment needs each semester.


Traveling Conditions:

Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed. 

Experience and Training
Training:

Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is required. Master's degree preferred. Possession of a current unrestricted license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina. 


Prior to or within first three years of employment; preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation and evaluation, appropriate to assignment. 


Experience:

Two years of full-time experience as a registered nurse in acute care setting.
