What You'll Do

Description of Responsibilities for the Engagement Storyteller:

  • Collaboratory Database: Support a public relational software database Collaboratory platform, fostering seamless information sharing. Data entry, user education, promotion.
  • Copy and Content: Maintain a digital presence that represents OCEL and our campus partnerships through a variety of mediums (Reporter articles, social media, newsletters, etc.)
  • Community Engagement: Be present at OCEL and campus events, interact with key faculty and community stakeholders, continually learn about and understand the nature of community engaged work as it evolves and grows.
  • Strategic Visibility: Serve as a strategic voice on the OCEL team on increasing engagement visibility on campus and in the community. Brainstorm new promotional ideas and support new initiative launches.
  • Collaboration:  Collaborate with other departments such as the Office of Holistic Excellence, Exp+, Global Engagement and various other service and academic departments across campus to support community engagement storytelling opportunities

The role of the Office of Community-Engaged Learning is to further the impact of mutually beneficial partnerships through community engaged research, teaching, learning, and service.  This work supports the focus on Community Impact and Urban Futures as a defining dimension of University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Preferred Qualifications for the Engagement Storyteller:

A successful candidate will have the ability to work in a highly collaborative team setting with enthusiasm and creativity. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven and diverse background in Communication or Journalism and Media Production and who are seeking a long-term relationship with the Office of Community-Engaged Learning. A highly qualified candidate will seek to deeply understand and promote the work OCEL does.

   

The successful applicant will possess the following skills, characteristics and aptitudes: 

  • Demonstrated ability to engage a variety of audiences through several platforms, using long-, short-form, photo, and video content;
  • Proficiency using data visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Canva), the ability to quickly learn related software systems;
  • A proven background in community/civic engagement and interaction with members of the community;
  • A self-starter with strong written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • A significant level of maturity, self-sufficiency, and follow-through;
  • And the ability to prioritize and multitask on a variety of projects and assignments.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

  • 15-20 hours per week, between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
  • $15/hour
