Full Job Description

Job Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Karl Desch at the University of Michigan is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our lab and concentrate on the molecular genetics of bleeding and thrombotic disorders in humans.

The Desch laboratory investigates the genetic determinants of complex phenotypes that surround the maintenance of hemostasis and the avoidance of hemorrhage or excessive thrombosis. We have developed expertise in computational genetics (genome-wide association studies, rare variant association studies, mendelian randomization) and bench based genetic screens (phage display, deep mutational scanning, lentivirus delivered CRISPR targeting and proximity labeling proteomics). The lab is made up of undergraduates, PhD students and post-doctoral fellows and uses basic cell and molecular biology techniques to answer questions regarding the role of human genetic variation in thrombosis and hemostasis. Research work is primarily funded by the NIH-NHLBI and participants in lab will be supported to write grants of their own as well. Dr. Desch is an internationally recognized scientist in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis. He serves on ad hoc NIH F30/F31/F32 and R01 study sections as well as American Society of Hematology Scholar study sections and until 2023 on the scientific subcommittee on Epigenetics and Genomics. Dr. Desch currently serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis focusing on manuscripts using genomic tools, von Willebrand factor biology, thrombotic microangiopathies and/or pediatric populations. He also serves on the variant curation expert panel for von Willebrand disease as a part of ClinGen. I am an active clinician in Neonatal-Perinatal medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Required Qualifications*
