Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Women and Kid’s Apparel Buyer to join our client’s dynamic team. This role will be responsible for creating and executing strategic assortment plans, driving sales and margin performance, and managing inventory for both stores and eCommerce. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail buying, exceptional analytical skills, and a passion for driving results in both physical stores and digital channels. As the Buyer, you will collaborate cross-functionally with various teams, including Planning, Allocation, Marketing, and Visual Merchandising, to ensure alignment and optimal performance of the product assortment.
Key Responsibilities

Assortment Planning & Purchasing:
- Create assortment plan strategies for all stores and eCommerce buys, determining units and dollars in accordance with fiscal responsibilities (sales, margin, turnover).
- Generate purchase orders each season, ensuring alignment with financial goals and business objectives.
- Strategically balance overall store and eCommerce inventories by timing deliveries of initial and replenishment stock between DC, Site Merchandising, Visual Merchandising, IT, and Store Operations to optimize ROI.

Sales Performance & Strategy Optimization:
- Review and react to sales performance data, working closely with cross-functional teams to adjust buying strategies.
- Maximize sales and inventory turn by coordinating with Planning and Allocation teams on consolidations and model stock levels.
- Plan and execute markdown strategies by analyzing sales results and trends, ensuring the greatest margin potential.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Regional & Global Merchandising teams to ensure that both consumer and marketplace needs are met.
- Collaborate with Marketing to drive consideration and conversion for key products.
- Partner with Visual Merchandising and Site Merchandising teams to ensure the optimal execution of product displays both in-store and online.

New Store & eCommerce Strategy:
- Strategize opening assortments, quantities, and delivery schedules for new stores and eCommerce, working in conjunction with Merchandise Managers, Content teams, Site, and Store Operations.
- Select products for promotional events and work with Marketing and Store Operations teams to ensure successful execution of event strategies.

Team Leadership:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Associate and/or Assistant Buyers to ensure they meet deliverables, drive performance, and achieve professional goals.
- Manage weekly and monthly deliverables, projects, and deadlines for direct reports.
Key Skills & Qualifications

Required Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other relevant retail applications.
- Ability to analyze sales and inventory data, interpret trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Strong retail math skills (ability to calculate figures and amounts accurately).
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management, employees, and external partners.
- Ability to understand, assess, and problem-solve using analytical skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience coaching and developing direct reports.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with cross-functional teams and senior management.

Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience buying in a Direct to Consumer (D2C) environment.
- Experience with SAP, Fiori, or Business Objects is a plus.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $46.44 to $51.60 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
