Under the guidance of Adapt’s Director of IT Infrastructure, the Security Engineer is responsible for supporting and maintaining the security infrastructure that safeguards the organization's data and systems. Along with understanding normal cybersecurity techniques, incumbent should also be familiar with working in a highly regulated industry such as those governed by HIPAA or PCI regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Design and Implement Security Solutions:
- Assist in the development and implementation of robust security measures
- Collaborate with system and network engineers to integrate security best practices.
- Research & recommend necessary tools such as penetration testing & vulnerability assessment tools
2. Monitor and Respond to Security Incidents:
- Monitor networks and systems for security breaches or intrusions.
- Respond to and manage security incidents, conduct investigations, and provide detailed reports.
- Track the performance of security measures to protect information and network infrastructure and computer systems
3. Conduct Vulnerability Assessments:
- Perform regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify potential threats.
- Work with other engineers to remediate identified vulnerabilities.
4. Manage Security Tools and Technologies:
- Working with the Network Engineer, oversee the deployment, management, and maintenance of security tools, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and SIEM systems.
- Ensure that security tools are configured correctly and functioning optimally.
5. Develop and Enforce Security Policies:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of security policies and procedures.
- Educate staff on security best practices and ensure compliance with security policies.
- Participate with the CIO in writing regular security articles and tips for the employee newsletter
6. Collaborate on IT Infrastructure Projects:
- Work closely with the Director of IT Infrastructure and other engineers to ensure security is considered in all infrastructure projects.
- Provide security expertise during the planning and execution of IT initiatives.
7. Stay Current with Emerging Threats:
- Continuously research and stay informed about new and emerging security threats.
- Update and adapt security measures as needed to address evolving threats.
8. Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure that the organization’s security practices are compliant with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., HIPAA, PCI-DSS, 42 CFR Part 2).
- Participate in risk management activities, identifying and mitigating potential security risks.
9. Audit and Reporting:
- Conduct regular security audits and assessments.
- Prepare reports on the security posture of the organization for the Director of IT Infrastructure.
- Work with the Director of IT Infrastructure and the CIO to create security-related KPIs that will be reported to the Executive Team and Board of Directors regularly.
10. Incident Response Planning:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of an incident response plan.
- Coordinate with relevant teams during a security incident to ensure a swift and effective response.
- Develop & maintain an incident log where all security incidents, including phishing emails reported are tracked.
- Participate with the rest of the IT team in regular disaster recovery drills and tabletop exercises.
This role requires a proactive and collaborative approach, ensuring that security measures align with the overall IT infrastructure strategy.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in information security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Cybersecurity with certifications such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), or CompTIA Security+ may be considered.
