• Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded. Research and analyze financial information. Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Prepares complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports to guide management and senior leadership to provide guidance on strategy and business outcomes. Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
• A specialist on complex technical and business accounting matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group.

JOB DUTIES

  • Consolidate and analyze financial data taking into account company’s goals and financial standing.
  • Partner with management to understand financial reporting needs and desired outcomes.
  • Maintains current knowledge of state tax laws and communicates applicable regulations to Sr. Statutory Accountant and Controller.
  • Monitor OPM website to review Carrier letters pertaining to financial reporting matters.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly investment yield analysis, corporate portfolio statements and other related reports for CFO and BOD Audit and Finance Committee.
  • Prepares OPM Annual Accounting Statement (AAS) in accordance with the Annual Reporting Instructions.
  • Calculates ‘months in reserve’ financial stability indicator.
  • Maintains tax records and prepares tax returns and related schedules and reports for GEHA, Inc., federal and state tax returns.
  • Maintains current knowledge of tax laws and communicates applicable regulations to Controller.
  • Administers GEHA’s annual corporate insurance policy renegotiations.
  • Responsible for corporate investment accounting. Prepares annual investment schedules for external auditors.
  • Ensures timely submission of reviewed quarterly and annual statutory financial statements to state insurance departments.
  • Serves as liaison between outside Companys Accounting Department and GEHA’s Accounting Department for accounting and financial reporting. Reviews and submits quarterly invoices.
  • Reviews monthly GAAP trial balance for ceded business activity and prepares related journal entries. Reconciles and monitors balances of reinsurance accounts monthly and determines appropriate settlement of balances due.
  • Maintains necessary documentation to support premium tax payments and allowable tax credits.
  • Assists VP – Controller and Director – Accounting & External Reporting with various accounting and financial investigation research projects.
  • Monitors compliance with statutory accounting principles and accounting principles generally accepted in the United States as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Prepares GAAP to STAT reconciliations quarterly and annually including explanations for differences and provides to VP- Controller for review.
  • May review the work of other Accountant. Plans for the training and development of other Accountants.
  • Assists in requests from internal and external auditors in the completion of the annual financial audit and in any state Department of Insurance examinations or inquiries.
  • Prepares the quarterly and annual financial statements including all supporting schedules.
  • Assists in requests from internal and external auditors in the completion of the annual financial audit and in any state Department of Insurance examinations or inquiries.
  • Assists VP - Controller with various statutory accounting and financial statement projections. Perform analyses of statements including analysis of risk-based capital requirements.
  • Assists VP- Controller in the annual budget process.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with state Departments of Insurance and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Stays abreast of state reporting requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • Requires 5+ years of related experience or 3+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Requires ability to effectively communicate with and influence colleagues at all levels within the organization.
  • Requires organization skills and must have the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Requires knowledge of software products that support specialized Accounting function

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Preferred Workday experience
  • Preferred CPA certification

Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. GEHA considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.

The annual base salary range for this position is $79,431 - $111,969 USD.
