40Summary:
To provide patient, guardians, and staff access to employees who accurately interpret via face-to-face encounters during designated hours noted in the designated broadcasting system. Spanish Interpreters are bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish to interpret health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients/guardians and Cook Childrens Medical Center Prosper health care providers. Provides Spanish Interpretation and Translation for all aspects of emergency care and inpatient care. Act as a Language Liaison between the patient, guardians, and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitates acquisition of Interpreter Services for non-Spanish Languages (via OPI/over the phone interpreter, VRI/video remote interpreter and/or on-site interpreter contract services).
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Demonstrates proficiency in English and secondary language.
Special consideration for experienced Interpreter in the following language: Spanish.
Familiarity with medical terminology an asset.
Previous interpretation/translation experience preferred.
Spanish interpreters/translators must meet Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Childrens Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language, reading and writing tests.
All applicants are tested to determine their Spanish proficiency level to qualify for employment, applicants must meet minimally required Spanish proficiency levels.
Testing will be administrated by a contracted testing service prior to completion of the employment process.
Applicants must test at the proficient level to qualify.
Subsequent to employment, Spanish proficiency levels are verified as part of the employees annual review. Testing is administered by a contracted testing service.
Basis Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained per Medical Center Policy, MC 175
