The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) tenure-track assistant professor or an associate professor with tenure review upon hire, depending on qualifications, in guitar interarts performance, with a full-time, nine-month (per year) academic appointment beginning in fall 2025. Now building a powerhouse for artistic innovation, the new college brings music together with dance, performance studies, theater, and visual arts, as well as creative computing and game design.
To serve the new BFA in Music Performance, the colleges Dance, Music, and Theater Performance Section seeks an individual with:
expertise in guitar interarts performance
expertise in teaching guitar at the university level
experience in Western art music, popular music, jazz, folk, commercial, or non-Western music practices or other aspects of music such as entrepreneurship, the music industry, or technology-based performance
the ability to develop undergraduate and graduate courses and interarts performance projects that engage with areas of strength in our college, within and outside of music
Expectations
Tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to:
develop and maintain competitive research activities
teach undergraduate and graduate courses
develop and implement curriculum pertaining to college programs
contribute to academic service
grow national or international visibility for their original work, for example, through peer-reviewed academic research publications or juried creative work, as well as pursue funding opportunities as applicable
Qualifications
All candidates must hold a terminal degree in music performance or a related field by the start date (such as DMA, DM, PhD, MFA).
Candidates applying at the rank of assistant professor must demonstrate:
a plan to establish and follow an agenda of research or creative work that will inform and advance their field of expertise
the potential to establish practices in effective teaching, student recruitment, committee service, and professional development
Candidates applying at the rank of associate professor with tenure review upon hire must demonstrate:
a well-developed agenda of research or creative work that is informing and advancing the field
successful practices in effective teaching, student recruitment, committee service, and professional development
Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate experience in interdisciplinary collaboration for artistic performance.
