JOB SUMMARY
The Physical Therapy Resident, under the supervision of a physical therapist, conducts Physical Therapy evaluations and treatment interventions for patients upon physician referral to restore function, relieve pain and prevent disability, and will receive training, in association and cooperation with its affiliated participating institutions, in accredited (or in process of) physical therapy residency medical education programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Performs comprehensive evaluation, upon receipt of a written or verbal consultation, to develop a physical therapy treatment plan and goals.
- Reviews the medical records and patient history, selects and accurately performs appropriate tests and measurements.
- Administers physical therapy interventions, and documents and communicates information regarding patient status and treatment to ensure information is dispensed to appropriate parties.
- Establishes rapport with patient in a professional manner, maintains effective communication with senior and other patient care givers regarding patient care.
- Maintains accurate records and prepares timely reports according to departmental and regulatory policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Participate fully in additional educational and scholarly activities of the program and as are required assume responsibility for teaching and supervision other residents and students.
- Maintains an expertise of home care reimbursement system practices.
- Attends professional education programs, and reviews current physical therapy and medical literature.
- Presents or facilitates staff in service training, as directed.
- Communicate effectively with their mentoring therapist a minimum of 10% working hours regarding the findings of their evaluation, physical examination, interpretation of diagnostic test and intended interventions on a continuous basis.

- Possesses proficient computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems and standard rehabilitation equipment.
- Demonstrate professional and technical skill in the selection, evaluation, utilization of treatment plans.
