As an Assistant Vice President in the US COO Regulatory Engagement team, your role is pivotal in overseeing and executing regulatory responses across the US COO spectrum. Your responsibilities include ensuring the prompt and uniform delivery of responses to regulators, working with your manager to establish and supervise processes that improve the timeliness and quality of our responses, whether part of a regulatory exam; a meeting with the regulators or any other type of request made of COO areas. Your focus extends to crafting and overseeing an operational framework for the function, coordinating communication within COO and with Reg Relations, and other stakeholders.

Key skills required to be successful as the US COO Regulatory Response AVP include:

• The ability to engage with and gain the trust of a wide range of senior stakeholders
• Considerable process / PM focus to enable effective delivery of concurrent engagements
• A considerable ‘check and challenge’ / independent reviewer mentality
• The ability to work tactically – for quick turn-arounds - and strategically as we build the function
• An understanding of the regulatory frameworks and/or the products and services offered by large, complex financial institutions like Barclays and preferably US regulated entities
• Minimum bachelor’s degree required
• Project/portfolio management, operations or strategy experience
• Financial services experience preferably within Markets, Consumer Finance or key COO functions such as Operations or Technology

Other highly valued skills include:

• Mindset of accountability for delivery
• Experience working on technology and/or operations regulatory projects/deliveries
• Ops, Tech or other COO area experience desirable
• Ability to work at Senior Manger levels, with considerable stakeholder management and influencing skills
• Record of process improvement (identification and implementation)
• Consistently demonstrates integrity, fairness and professional conduct

This role is based in Whippany, New Jersey.

Purpose of the role

To oversee that the bank operates in adherence to established framework, policies, and standards, laws, rules, regulations, and internal controls.

Accountabilities

  • Analysis of processes, transactions, and activities across various business units to assess adherence to policies, regulations, and internal controls.
  • Interviews, documentation review, and data analysis to gather evidence of compliance.
  • Identification and reporting of deviations or non-conformities, documenting findings and recommendations for corrective action.
  • Analysis of the effectiveness of existing controls and recommend enhancements to strengthen the control environment.

Assistant Vice President Expectations

  • To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
