Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operation of the Visitor Center and satellite visitor information centers, including gift shop operations, merchandising, inventory management, purchasing, and maintaining visitor information and tourism resources.
- Supervise staff by recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and evaluating performance to ensure quality visitor services and operational coverage.
- Coordinate visitor services for conventions, meetings, sporting events, group tours, and special events by working with event planners, tourism partners, and community organizations.
- Maintain and analyze tourism statistics, CRM databases, visitor data, and performance metrics to support departmental planning and reporting.
- Coordinate purchasing, procurement, financial records, and administrative processes for assigned tourism programs and operations.
- Assist with the planning, implementation, and administration of tourism initiatives, visitor services, and departmental priorities.
- Maintain and update tourism websites, destination information, promotional materials, and partner listings to ensure accurate and accessible visitor resources.
- Respond to visitor inquiries and provide information and referrals for attractions, accommodations, restaurants, meeting venues, golf courses, events, and other tourism-related services.
- Represent the department at industry meetings, conferences, tradeshows, familiarization tours, committees, and community events to promote Chesapeake as a destination.
- Support departmental events, special projects, administrative functions, and other tourism-related activities as assigned.
This position requires strong organizational, communication, customer service, and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, build relationships with tourism partners, and provide exceptional service to visitors while supporting the City's tourism initiatives.
