The Applications Engineer II, Battery Energy Storage Systems, is a key member of the Battery Energy Storage Systems vertical at Honeywell Process Solutions and reports to the Global Technical Solutions Manager - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role is primarily responsible for the technical scope required to deliver BESS proposals. It includes understanding the customer's needs, energy profiles, and life cycle requirements; the selection of supplier equipment; and the engineering and technical aspects of the BESS project design to ensure low life cycle cost, quality, reliability, constructability, and operation. Additionally, the Applications Engineer II, Battery Energy Storage Systems, is responsible to understand applicable regional electrical codes and standards.
This role is also one of two subject matter experts on energy storage in the Americas pole, and guides and mentors project and technology teams on energy storage systems and solutions. The Applications Engineer II, Battery Energy Storage Systems, is responsible for benchmarking and evaluating new technologies or new offerings from suppliers to integrate into our solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the other team members in the preparation and coordination of proposals, requests for information, and other marketing efforts
- Responsible for the technical review and understanding of the customer's requirements in their requests for proposals including system designs, single line drawings, site layouts, containerization, performance guarantees, availability guarantees, etc.
- Responsible for the development, review, and technical oversight of engineering and design components of battery energy storage proposals
- Ensure proposed solutions adhere to applicable industry standards and electrical engineering design principles as they relate to specifically to renewable energy systems, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV (photovoltaic), and power systems.
- Understand and advise on the role of inverters and power control system technology in BESS projects
- Understand lithium-ion battery technology and industry practices to provide guidance to the organization on the application of technology.
- Contribute to and help maintain technical specifications of our offerings
- Mentor other less experienced staff and provide technical support and guidance to project execution teams
- Develop and contribute to the development of tools which enable the development of high-quality proposals and estimates
- Benchmark competitor's products and offerings, and communicate to team
- Maintain knowledge of applicable codes & standards and certifications in the energy storage and renewable industry
The salary range for this position is $92,900 - $139,200.. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.

MUST HAVE:
- Three to five years of related technical experience, particularly in the delivery of electrical projects such as electrical systems, panel boards, backup generators, switch boards
- Prior experience in a solar PV project, battery energy storage, or microgrids an asset
WE VALUE:
- B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
- Solid understanding of how battery energy storage projects are designed and delivered, including how site technical issues are resolved
- Experience reviewing customer and engineering design requirements and responding to requests for proposals by developing project scope documents, technical reports, cost estimates, and proposal documentation
- Experience delivering renewable energy systems, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and photovoltaic (PV) * Solid understanding of Inverters and DC converters as part of BESS projects, including a strong understanding of inverter controls, fast response, ride-thru, PQ curves, AVR, and operational standards
- Solid understanding of single-line drawings and equipment specifications (including transformers, MCC, switchgear, substation equipment), system studies and protective relay settings as applicable to behind the meter and front of the meter renewable projects
- Comprehensive understanding, interpretation, and application of industry standards and grid codes for electrical power systems, as required by customer location, such as Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code and other applicable electrical codes
- Solid understanding of power engineering modeling software ETAP or SKM
- Solid understand of modelling in Excel, Homer and/or Matlab and simulation result interpretation
- Customer focused and collaborative team member who can adapt to a rapidly changing market
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to function effectively with minimum support
- Ability to work closely with and influence cross-functional teams in a diverse, global, and multicultural environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Able to work under and meet tight deadlines
