The role:

Do you want to use your skills to make a difference? Join us as a highway maintenance specialist to help keep Oregon’s roads and travelers safe! As part of our team, you will operate equipment necessary to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges and structures. In this split position, you will work with the Bridge maintenance crew from approximately May 1 through October 31 and the Sweet Home maintenance crew from November 1 through April 30. You will also help with emergency cleanup and traffic control after incidents, storms, spills and more! Apply today!

A day in the life:

• Participate in all phases of bridge maintenance and repair.

• Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.

• Assist with weather related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment to clear snow from roadways.

• Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools required for maintenance and repair of various surfaces.

• Construct and place rigging and scaffolding.

• Build false supports of wood or steel to safely secure structures or traffic during repairs.

• Remove, fabricate, repair and replace damaged or worn steel bridge members using welding techniques and equipment.

• Draft, read, interpret and carry out projects utilizing detailed plans such as field drawn sketches or bridge design construction plans.

• Perform traffic control through maintenance and construction projects.

• Must be able to walk, stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.

• May need to be available at any time (days, overnights, weekends, holidays) for emergency, on-call and weather-related purposes.

Minimum qualifications:

One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work;

OR

Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.

Special qualifications:

• This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 1100 Goldfish Farm Road SE, Albany, OR 97322 for emergency call-outs during the summer season.

• This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 205 Main Street, Sweet Home, OR 97386 for emergency call-outs during the winter season.

• Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions, OR have the ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL-A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions removed within six months of hire (ODOT will cover training costs) to be considered eligible for this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.

• A current, valid commercial driver’s license A (CDL-A) with tanker endorsement or a CDL permit is preferred.

• Demonstrated experience with highway maintenance, construction or bridge maintenance.

• Demonstrated experience of snow removal using snow plows, sanding and deicers.

• Proven ability to read and understand policies and procedures and apply then to your work.

• Demonstrated experience working in a team environment and independently.

• Demonstrated experience using hand tools, chainsaws and heaving equipment such as tractors, excavators, loaders, dump trucks and more.
