Summary

This position is located in the Anesthesiology Department at the Crow/Northern Cheyenne Hospital, Crow Agency, MT. The incumbent is responsible for the anesthesia care delivered at the facility, which is a 25 bed general medical and critical access hospital with two surgical suites.

A housing subsidy of up to $793.38 per pay period without out dependents or $1,012.15 with dependents may be available.

Recruitment, Relocation and Retention incentives may also be available.

Duties


Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job:

  • Participates in the pre-operative assessment of the surgical patient by reviewing the clinical chart and interviewing the patient in order to ascertain the patient's physical status.
  • Administers general anesthesia to induce the patient to the proper state of narcosis.
  • Manages patient condition closely throughout surgery. This involves interpreting and utilizing data from a variety of monitoring devices and determining the need for and applying appropriate supportive therapy including artificial ventilation, intubation, administration of vasopressors, anti-hypertensives, narcotics and paralytics; adjustment of fluid, electrolyte, and acid base balance; and transfusion of blood products.
  • Manages the post-anesthesia care of patients by reviewing clinical chart, conducting interviews to determine presence or absence of complications, assessing adequacy of pain therapy and monitoring ventilatory status, assuring continuity of care from surgery to recovery room.
  • Masters new anesthetic drugs and techniques as they become available.

DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY JOB OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: These positions are eligible to be filled through Office of Personnel Management's delegated Direct Hire Authority [DHA]. Education

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.

Licensure

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Administer anesthesia and monitor patients through their surgeries; Complete physical assessments of each patient; Discuss the surgery and recovery with the patient prior to the procedure; Prepare and administer the patient-specific amount of anesthesia needed for the procedure; Maintain the patient's anesthesia levels during surgery; Ensure proper anesthesia recovery for patients until patients are transferred to care units; Perform and document the pre-anesthesia assessment and evaluation of the patient; Select, obtain, order, and administer preanesthetic medication or treatment; Select, obtain, prepare, and use equipment, invasive and non-invasive monitors, supplies, and drugs for the administration of sedation, anesthesia, and pain management services; perform safety checks as needed.

Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
