Field Technician

Louisville, KY
Full-Time

Job Description

At E Source, we help utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape, and we’re looking for a Water Loss Detection Technician to join our Water Loss Consulting team.

E Source is a research, data/analytics, and technology-focused professional services firm focused exclusively on the utility industry in North America. We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. Headquartered in Texas, we have 450+ employees across the US and Canada. Learn more at www.esource.com.

As a Water Loss Detection Technician, you’ll play a key role in locating and pinpointing leaks in water distribution systems. You’ll work closely with our Water Loss Consulting team and utility clients to carry out field investigations to find water leaks, prepare accurate reports, and maintain equipment — helping ensure our field operations are effective, safe, and well-documented. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on, detail-oriented field work, is comfortable working independently, and wants to contribute to work that has a direct impact on water infrastructure across the US.

In this role, you will:

• Learn procedures for locating and pinpointing leaks in water distribution systems using specialized acoustic and digital equipment

• Learn the planning, reporting, and management tasks of leak-detection work, including reading and interpreting maps, planning field work, preparing reports, and managing logistics

• Assist with general maintenance of equipment, tools, and vehicles

• Support other field activities as needed

• Enter data and prepare reports using tablets, GIS applications, and Microsoft Office applications

• Work primarily during normal business hours, with occasional nights or weekends as needed

• Travel throughout the US as you grow into the full scope of the role (typically after three to six months on the job)

You’re likely a great fit if you:

• Are in good physical condition and able to perform strenuous field work in all weather conditions

• Can stand or walk for long periods of time

• Hold a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record

• Are self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently

• Are willing and able to travel for extended periods of time

And even better if you:

• Have an associate’s degree or some college experience

• Have a plumbing background or experience working with hand tools

• Have experience with GIS applications or field data collection tools

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include:

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

• Physical capability for strenuous outdoor field work in all weather conditions

• Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time

• Comfort with technology, including tablets and Microsoft Office applications

• Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills

• Ability to travel for extended periods of time

Driving Requirements

This position requires a valid U.S. driver’s license and a clean driving record. A clean driving record is defined as:

• No DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions within the past 5 years

• No license suspensions or revocations within the past 3 years

• No more than 2 moving violations or 1 at-fault accident in the past 3 years

Final candidates will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check as part of the background screening process. Continued employment may be contingent upon maintaining a clean driving record.

At E Source, you’ll work alongside people who are thoughtful, curious, and deeply knowledgeable about utility and energy systems. We value clarity over jargon, substance over flash, and collaboration over ego. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and help shape a company that plays a real role in how the energy future unfolds.

What you can expect

• Excellent insurance options, including medical, dental, and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; company-paid long- and short-term disability insurance; medical and dependent-care flexible spending plans, and paid parental leave.

• A flexible time off (FTO) policy that provides paid time away from work, approved by your manager, while ensuring business needs, workload commitments, and appropriate coverage are maintained.

• A 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match.

The budgeted salary for this position is $40,000–$50,000 USD + annual bonus of 5%. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be based in Louisville, Kentucky, with travel throughout the US required as the role develops (up to 50% of the time).

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US. We’re unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
