Job Summary

The Supervisor of Building & Station Maintenance plans, directs, and supervises personnel and resources involved in performing the repair, maintenance, alteration, and refurbishing of the Authority's buildings, stations, facilities, and structures. This position also ensures the safety of passengers and employees through the enforcement of Authority standards and policies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and courteous customer service through face-to-face interaction with customers or via telephone or written correspondence 
  • Assume the duties of Superintendent as needed 
  • Schedule and prioritize the Division's work, ensuring safe and efficient productivity 
  • Perform frequent inspections of the Authority's properties and work sites, recommending necessary maintenance, repairs, or improvements 
  • Arrange for the requisition, delivery, and proper maintenance of all materials, equipment, and support services from other areas as necessary 
  • Ensure budgetary goals are met and all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner 
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, discipline, and promotion of personnel 
  • Supervise, monitor, and document the performance of various contractors, vendors, outside agencies, and municipalities 
  • Manage within approved operating and capital budgets 
  • Participate in a rotating weekend duty coverage schedule and an as-required weather-related duty coverage schedule 
  • Maintain manual and computerized records of all department maintenance and personnel activities 
  • Drive company or personal vehicles to visit work sites, assist at events and emergencies, and / or transport crews or equipment as needed 
  • Respond to each inquiry in a courteous and professional manner, consistent with the Authority's customer service quality standards 
  • Uphold rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees 
  • Assist in workforce management by ensuring fair and consistent application and strict adherence to rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the Authority including EEO, Anti-Discrimination, and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies 
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned

Supervision
  • Supervision to General Foreperson, Roofer, Carpenter, Painter, System Repairers, Sign Writers, various contractors, vendors, outside agencies, and municipalities

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of experience in building and equipment maintenance, including repair techniques in building maintenance, construction, or related field 
  • One (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity 
  • Valid U.S. driver's license 
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word / Excel ("Office"), database, PeopleSoft, and mainframe applications 
  • Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills 
  • Ability to comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. 
  • Ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce

Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, construction technology or related field from an accredited institution
  • Construction Supervisor's License 
  • Massachusetts Builder's License 
  • Additional supervisory experience

  • Ability to adhere to rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the MBTA, including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies
  • Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting (unless if recent graduate), including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection)
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and medical Clinic screening, potentially including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings
  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
