Summary

The purpose of this position is to serve as the Chief of Anesthesiology, exercising overall supervisory responsibilities for the planning, development, organization, coordination, integration and overall evaluation of the Branch.

  • Planning and coordination of anesthesiology services for the department and facility.
  • Caseloads involves the full range of cases including very difficult and complex cases within the specialty.
  • Applicant is recognized as an expert in his/her field specialty and is fully responsible for the clinical practice of the medical staff in anesthesiology.
  • Assigns work to employees in an efficient and equitable manner in order to achieve satisfactory quality of patient care.
  • Reviews, counsels, treats, observes and administers anesthesia services to patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the ; ; ; , or an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the , a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Note: An agency may waive the licensure requirement for research positions not involving direct patient care.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.
An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the .
A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the , (AMA) or .
A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-15:
5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Direct involvement with managing, developing and coordinating a comprehensive clinical, preventive, and public health approach to health programs. Develop and implement guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge in supervisory and budget management principles in order to effectively recruit and manage a diverse staff, achieve Agency objectives and manage resources. Develop and implement data collection and evaluation activities to perform program evaluation. Provide guidance, advice and expertise in a team environment.
AGENCY-WIDE SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - Board Certification: Applicants applying in a specialty must meet one of the following as an approved agency-wide selective factor. This becomes part of the minimum requirements to qualify for the position.
